Vishal Chitlangya - AIR 40 CA Final November 2015 - Ahmedabad, Gujarat
Vishal Chitlangya

I am Vishal Chitlangya from Ahmedabad. Being a marwadi, accounting and finance are said to be inherited in us; this led to interest in pursuing Chartered Accountancy.

I did graduation along with CA course. Apart from studies, I have also served as Secretary of Ahmedabad Branch of Western India Chartered Accountants’ Student Association (WICASA).

My first reaction

After appearing for ISCA paper, I just wished for getting cleared in first stroke. Seeing results, was truly amazed firstly for an all India rank and also for my ISCA scores (I scored 40 !! 😀 ).

I give credit for my success to my mentors and my family, who always was by my side to help me achieve this feat.

I pursued my articleship from Surana Maloo & Co., a renowned CA firm in Ahmedabad. Articleship experience helps us to develop interest in subjects and also it aids the theoretical expertise we obtain through studies. Three years of articleship experience is very crucial in our making of a complete professional along with helping us in examinations.

It is not so that only tuitions can help you crack examinations, self-study is also enough provided you consistently put in efforts. I joined coaching institute as it helps us to remain connected with studies on a continual basis.

Effective preparation was only done in last 5 months of examinations after getting leave from articleship. I have a good command on practical subjects whereas theory is equally weak. One can adopt strategy of regular revisions in theory subjects so that we can easily memorize the content.

Books and e-sources

ICAI publications viz. Study material, Practice Manual, Mock Test and other additional material issued from time to time are very important.

There are various reference books available for each subject; one should choose the one he/she is comfortable with methodology/language. Only one rule shall be followed that once a reference material is selected, it should not be changed.

Mock tests

Yes, I appeared for Mock tests as writing papers is an important part of exam preparation. It helps us to prepare mentally also for the final 3 hours as it is quite common to mishandle the pressure in the final examinations. We also develop our writing skills in terms of presentation and speed, an equally important part to score well at par with the content.

Rank and preparation

Scoring an All India Rank at IPCC level, I always wished to maintain the same at this level also. Self-evaluation at regular intervals helps to realize where does one stand at that moment, which gradually motivates to study further and keeps the momentum also.

ICAI Campus

Sharpening a little on soft skills and updating own self through discussions with seniors in the fraternity helps a lot.

Future Plans

I wish to join a consultancy firm wherein I can get exposure in Direct Tax.

Advice to fellow students

Things are not that tough as being projected. Consistent efforts will make things easier, so plan studies well in advance.
