Rank: 40, Batch: Nov 2015
My first reaction
My first reaction was a big relief that I made it but when I heard that I got a rank too then it was a pleasant surprise. The whole credit for success goes to my parents who stood like a rock and supported me at every step.
I did my articleship from narendra singhania & Co.. I was mostly into Statutory audit and this helped me prepare audit subject quite well.
I had a plan for preparations. I did two revisions after completion of course. I have taken coaching for many subjects. I believe coaching is necessary as it gives you an edge, however if somebody can do self study with discipline then nothing like that.
A. Study schedule:
I had a 4 months plan after completion of my coaching and articleship. I revised every subject twice and after that did past year papers of all the subjects. My typical day in the beginning of leaves constituted of 10 hours of study then in a month it went to 12 hours then 14 and during last month to 16 hours. Basically idea was to peak at right time.
B. Strong and weak subjects (How did I prepared them?)
Strong subjects were financial reporting and direct taxation. Weak subject were ISCA and costing. For costing I practiced a lot of questions as well as solved past year papers and for ISCA I wrote all answers to ensure that I was able to retain the technical jargons.
Although I couldn’t attend any mock tests due to time constraint but I would strongly recommend students to go through mock tests if they have time as it is very useful.
Rank and preparation
No, I wasn’t preparing to get rank even though I was a rank holder at IPCC level too. My first and only aim was to get both groups cleared in first attempt. I don’t think anybody can prepare for rank as getting a rank not only depends on your performance but also on the performance of other students. To keep study momentum going I used to keep myself motivated.
I am joining corporate world.
One should be aware of their resumes, basics like accounting standards, taxation amendments and also about business and finance around India and world in general.
Advice to fellow students
I would like to tell all the students that hard work always pays, it might get deferred in some cases but eventually it pays so keep up the spirits and work hard, don’t let success to your head or failure to your heart.
