Jatin Grover - AIR 34 CA Final Nov 2015 - Delhi
Jatin Grover

I am Jatin Grover, lives in Janakpuri, New Delhi. I am person who believes in being positive. My decision to pursue CA course was taken by me way back when I was in 10th class and was to decide which stream I will be taking in 11th class. On that day itself I decided that I will be pursuing the most respected course “Chartered Accountancy”.

My first reaction

Result was announced around 12:30 on 17th January but due to server issue the website was not working. At 2 o’clock one of my friend called me and asked me to visit caresults.nic.in. I was pretty much confident to pass the exams but at the same time one cannot be sure as it was CA Final Examination result. But by God’s grace I not only cleared my exams but also secured a rank. There was a series of reaction after watching the result and my name being reflected in merit list link as well. Those reactions can not be expressed in few words.

The credit of my success goes to my family who supported me, believed in me. The credit also goes to my friends and my seniors who were always there to increase my confidence and making me dream for rank. And of course, the biggest thanks to God for everything that I am today.

Articleship

For my articleship, I was associated with GSA & Associates a firm headed by CA Amarjit Chopra – Past President of ICAI. Each and every day of my articleship period contributed a lot in my preparation. I was able to do self study of 4 subjects because I got practical exposure of things related to those subjects and also the 3 year training improved my understanding skills which enabled me to do self study of ISCA generally known as most difficult subject of CA Final.

Preparation

Preparation of CA Final should be started from very first year of articleship itself. Course being very vast, proper planning of 2.5 years is must. Study should be done on consistent basis, giving 14-15 hrs a day during last 3-4 months is not enough to clear a tough examination like CA-Final.

Joining coaching institute is not necessary and if one is having practical exposure of a particular subject then coaching should be avoided. Self study is must even if one goes for coaching as attending a class is not sufficient.

Strategies

A. Study schedule:
My syllabus completed on 20th August 2015 but by that time I was able to complete 1st revision of 2 subjects as well. Thereafter I revised each subject twice or thrice by taking one subject at a time.

B. Strong and weak subjects (How did I prepared them?)
My strongest subject was IDT, although my marksheet does not prove so since the planning failed during the last phase for IDT. I did self study of IDT, for service tax I initially prepared it from Ready Reckoner and for revision purpose I referred Bangar sir’s book. My weakest subject was Audit, for this I took coaching.

Books and e-sources

  • Accounts – Praveen Sharma sir’s book and Study Mat and Practice manual for Accounting standard
  • SFM – Aditya Jain Sir’s Notes and book and Practice manual
  • Audit – Coaching from Kamal Garg Sir
  • Law – Coaching from Kamal Garg Sir
  • AMA – Ramesh Gupta (Prerna Tutorial)
  • ISCA – Study material and Practice Manual
  • DT – Coaching from Vinod Gupta sir
  • IDT – Service Tax Ready Reckoner and Bangar Sir’s book

Mock tests

I did at least 1 mock test of each subject at home in exam kind of situations apart from that I also solved Mock test issued by ICAI for May’15 examinations although not in exams kind of situation. Yes solving mock test is necessary for success.

Rank and preparation

I was preparing for clearing both group in first attempt. Rank is a blessing from almighty god. To keep the momentum going I told myself that this is the first and last attempt for me, if I fail I will not be able to clear CA in my lifetime.

Future Plans

My future plans are to enter into corporate world.

Advice to fellow students

CA course is not an easy journey you need to burn the midnight oil. The key to success will be proper planning and proper revisions.
