Rishika Sureka - Air 43 CA Final November 2016 - Kolkata, West Bengal
Rishika Sureka

I was born in Bhagalpur and brought up in Kolkata which is rightly referred to as the city of joy. I did my schooling from Mahadevi Birla World Academy and followed that up with a B.Com (Hons.) in St. Xavier’s College, Kolkata. My father is a businessman while my elder brother is Chartered Accountant. My mother is a homemaker and the reason why I ventured into CA giving CPT after my class 12 boards. Chartered Accountancy gave me diverse knowledge in various fields of finance which is why I pursued it till the very end.

My first reaction

I was ecstatic to see my name on the merit list. And the reason my name was on the merit list was due to my family, my principal and my friends who kept supporting me throughout. But the biggest share of credit would go to my brother under whose guidance and faith was I able to carry on this journey.

Articleship

I pursued my internship at Anil Goenka & Co. which helped me immensely to have a better understanding of the concepts. For instance, the much feared AS 15 was a little better under my grasp due to all the the actuarial reports of gratuity I had come across.

Preparation

I ensured I had good amount of sleep and breaks in my schedule so as to give my mind the required rest in order to focus better. Coaching centres are a choice but if one is not diligent to keep with the study schedule it becomes quite the necessity. While the pro lies in better understanding the cons lie in the time and pace at which it moves as that is standardised and not customised.

Strategies

A. Study schedule:
My study schedule in the last month ensured that I studied during the day and had a full night’s sleep. Breaks were limited to 5 minutes at a time and not more than that unless a lunch/breakfast/dinner break.

B. Strong and weak subjects (How did I prepare them?)
I was weaker at the theoretical subjects and hence I ensured seeing the practice manuals page by page for them. That also helped me structure my answers better in the exam.

Mock tests

I had attended one mock test. Although not necessary it does help you to complete your syllabus on time because of the deadline.

Rank and preparation

I was preparing to give my best shot at the exam and nothing else. And it was my brother and his faith in me that kept my study momentum going for me.

Future Plans

At the moment I am looking forward to work with the corporates.

ICAI Campus

For the ICAI campus I am brushing up with my subjects and also keeping up to date with the recent laws and news.

Advice to fellow students

My advice to the students would be to not panic during exams or before it. Strategise and manage time effectively. And ensure that you take adequate breaks and not tire yourself out.
