My first reaction
Surprisingly, I never viewed my result. I had got a call from the President of the Institute informing me about AIR 1. And within a few minutes, my marks sheet was in public domain. Talking about the feeling when the President informed me of my AIR 1, it was a great feeling. CA was always my biggest dream and getting a call from the President of the Institute informing me of AIR 1 was something I had not even dreamt of. I was on Cloud 9 and tears of happiness had started flowing out of my eyes. I want to give the credit of my success to my family, friends, coaching classes and my articleship firm.
I did my internship from S J Bajaria & Co., Ghatkopar. It helped me a lot in preparing for my examination. I got to have a practical exposure in Direct Taxes, Indirect Taxes and Audit which helped me prepare in the respective subjects.
I used the material provided by the Institute for my preparations. It was regular studies for me, right from Day 1, which did the trick. I had joined coaching classes for all practical subjects and I had done self study for the theory ones. I think coaching classes are important for having a better understanding of the concepts.
A. Study schedule:
Regular studies – 2 hours daily
Study leave – 13-14 hours daily
I used to rotate 3-4 subjects everyday during study leave. It wasn’t possible for me to read only one subject for 4-5 hours at a stretch. Hence, I used to rotate subjects at regular intervals.
B. Strong and weak subjects (How did I prepare them?)
All practical subjects were my strength. Theory especially Audit used to give me nightmares. But by planning a sound strategy for it, I was able to manage Audit as well.
Books and e-sources
Material provided by the Institute. One can also watch videos on various chapters to have a better understanding.
I had attended Prelims examination conducted by my coaching classes. Prelims or mocks are definitely necessary for success, primarily, because one gets to know how to manage time in those 1.5 days we get during exams and also how to manage time in 3 hours of exams.
Rank and preparation
Yes, I was preparing for a Rank in CA Final. I had got an AIR 10 in IPCC. So, I always wanted a single digit Rank in CA Final and AIR 1 is a cherry on the cake. I studied regularly – everyday 2 hours study was something I had planned and implemented right from Day 1. Whenever I used to feel low, I used to approach my family and some of my friends for the necessary motivation.
I wish to enter the corporate world.
I have been researching on recent topics and have been reading certain books to polish my knowledge and skills.
Advice to fellow students
I would like to give a couple of advices:
- Be focused and regular in your studies. Don’t just bank upon the study leave period for your studies. Discipline is very important for succeeding in life and hence, be disciplined in your study schedule.
- Don’t ignore the material provided by the Institute. You can surely refer to the other material. However, be thorough with the material provided by the Institute first. That, in my opinion, is bare minimum for cracking CA Finals.
