Charmi Doshi - AIR 4 CA Final May 2017 - Mumbai, Maharashtra
Charmi Doshi

I am Charmi Doshi from Mumbai. I graduated from R A Podar College of Commerce and Economics, Matunga and I did my articleship from Ernst & Young in Direct Taxation. I secured AIR 4 in CA Final May 2017 and AIR 8 in CA IPCC in May 2014.

The reason that I chose CA is because I feel that the subjects that we study in CA curriculum are very practical and helps in developing a very strong technical base. It is a comprehensive course which gives you knowledge, practical exposure, reputation, money and helps develop your patience level as well as ability to cope with circumstances.

My first reaction

When I entered my roll number, I was directly re-directed to the Merit page and on seeing Rank 4 against my name, tears of joy started flooding my eyes. It was that feeling when you know your hard work and your family’s prayers have finally paid off.

I did my internship from Ernst & Young. Since I was in Direct tax, it helped a lot while preparing for the subject since I could relate to it practically and so it became one of my stronger subjects.

I kept in touch with the subjects since the beginning and studied regularly. I attended coaching classes but in the end self study is what matters the most.

A. Study schedule:
I attended my classes regularly and stayed in touch with the subjects on a regular basis which helped me while starting the studies during the study leave. During the study leave, I made sure that I stick to my schedule and remain focused on my target. I was off social media since mid November which helped me to stay focused.

B. Strong and weak subjects (How did I prepare them?)
Tax was a strong subject for me. I prepared summary notes for tax, read the bare provisions and revised it regularly. On the other hand, I faced difficulty in ISCA. So I attended separate classes for ISCA and made it a point to stay in touch with that subject almost on a daily basis during my study leave.

Books and e-sources

The Institute material is the best source of study, both for understanding the concepts and for practice questions.

Mock tests

I could not attend the mock test but I made sure that I went through the past papers to understand the kind of questions to expect. It helps in evaluating the level of difficulty and your preparedness.

Rank and preparation

I did want a rank in CA Final and I put in my 100% efforts to get it. Since I had secured a rank in IPCC as well, there were high expectations too. I kept a positive attitude throughout and ensured that I covered the entire portion.

Future Plans

I am still evaluating my options and might enter in corporate world since as of now I don’t have any plans of starting my own practice.

ICAI Campus

I keep myself updated about the current affairs and significant reforms like GST, Ind AS, Demonetisation, etc. Also, understand about the company and the role that is being offered before appearing for the interview.

Advice to fellow students

Maintain a positive attitude, study regularly and don’t succumb to pressure. Stay away from distractions and be focused. There is no doubt a lot of hard work which is required but it definitely pays off well in the end.
