Anurag Bagaria - AIR 3 CA Final May 2018 - Surat, Gujarat
Anurag Bagaria

I am Anurag Bagaria from Surat. I have done my schooling from Maheshwari Vidyapeeth, Surat. My father is businessman in textile industry and my mother is a homemaker. I am very much interested in finance so I decided to pursue CA and thus started my journey in this course by enrolling for CPT in June 2014.

My first reaction

The president of ICAI called me at 11:30 to tell me my result. Receiving your result from president of your institute is itself a great honor and it was the moment of immense happiness and satisfaction that all the hard work and dedication has paid off. I want to give credit of my success firstly to my mentor CA Ravi Chhawchharia, then to my family and then to myself for my hard work.

I did my articleship from Natvarlal Vepari and co., Surat. The articleship provides us with practical exposure in our field and helps us to develop ourselves professionally. This provides us an opportunity to practically do what we study and thus makes the learning more interesting. When we apply our studies in practical scenario, it provides us with better understanding of the subject and thus helps us to prepare for the same.

I took coaching under CA Ravi Chhawchharia, Surat. I started preparing for CA final from around Sep 2015. I was regular in my studies and prepared schedules for completing the syllabus which helped me ensure that I complete the whole syllabus in time with proper revision. It is not necessary to join a coaching institute; one can clear CA with self-study provided he or she is ready to give the efforts required.

A. Study schedule

Initially I used to study 3-4 hours daily, however in last 6 months it was 10-12 hours minimum per day. I made my schedule chapter wise for each subject which helped me to analyze the time I was taking for each chapter and thus I was able to understand where I need to work more.

B. Strong and weak subjects (How did I prepared them?)

Practical subjects like Financial reporting, strategic financial management and advanced management accounting are my strong subjects. Audit and ISCA were my weak subjects. For practical subjects, I focused on concepts which helped me to solve variety of problems by myself. For theory subjects like Audit and ISCA I made handwritten notes to make them strong and build my confidence.

Books and e-sources

Subject Books referred by me
Financial Reporting D.S Rawat for Accounting Standards
Strategic Financial Management Worksheets given in class
Audit Pankaj Garg
Law Munish Bhandari
Advance management accounting Worksheets given in class
Direct Tax CA Ravi Chhawchharia
Indirect Tax CA Vineet Sodhani (only for practical sums)

Mock tests

No, I didn’t attend any ‘mock tests’, rather I solved the past papers. The aim of mock tests is that we can evaluate how much prepared are we for the exam. So what matters most is to have that evaluation, whether we do that by ourselves or by mock test.

Rank and preparation

Yes I was preparing for rank in CA Final. I kept the momentum going by keeping in my mind the image of the result day that I will be receiving call from president of ICAI. So whenever I got distracted, I used to bring myself back on the track by thinking about that image and it also helped me to remain focused to achieve my aim.

Future Plans

I want to enter in corporate world and with that I will be pursuing CFA.

ICAI Campus

Campus placement is a very helpful step from ICAI for its students so it’s important that we students take the complete benefit of this opportunity. To take the benefit of this I am refreshing my concepts and updating myself with recent amendments.

Advice to fellow students

For students, not only pursuing CA but for all, I would say only 2 things. First, be regular and do not procrastinate. Second, do time management; if you can manage the time, no one can stop you from achieving your goal.
