Rank: 8, Batch: May 2016
Place: Sikar, Rajasthan
My first reaction
I was in a mixed state of shock and happiness. I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw my name in the rank list. The credit for this success goes to my sister and parents. My friends and peers also helped me a lot during my studies.
I did my articleship from Deloitte Haskins & Sells, Bangalore. Working there gave me practical exposure in the field of Chartered Accountancy Course which helped me a lot with my studies. It gave me a first-hand experience of the professional world. The guidance and support of my managers and other seniors helped me to develop as a professional person.
I did self-study for the CA final examination. Coaching classes help in maintaining regularity in studies, but if you are punctual enough with self-studies then I don’t think it is necessary to join any coaching institution.
A. Study schedule
I started studying 18 months before the exams. However, maintaining a balance between office and studies was very difficult. With office, I could manage studying only for 3-4 hours a day. Once my exam leave began, I gradually increased my study time to 12-13 hours a day.
B. Strong and Weak subjects (How did I prepared them?)
I personally found theory subjects like audit and ISCA little difficult. It is easier to have grip on the practical subjects by practicing more and more questions. For the theory subjects, I made sure that I studies them daily for 2-3 hours during my entire exam leave.
Books and e-sources
I would recommend institute practice manual. Apart from that I would also recommend Vinod Gupta Sir’s Direct Tax Modules and Bangar Sir’s Indirect Tax Book.
No, I did not attend mock tests. However, I quickly went through the question papers before the exam to see how prepared I was.
Rank and preparation
Frankly speaking I was not preparing for the rank. All I had in my mind was to give the best from my side. I had put in all my efforts for the exams. The goal to excel in exams kept me going.
I would like to enter the corporate world once I am done with my articleship and GMCS – II.
With so many changes coming in, I am keeping myself updated with all those changes for the campus interviews.
Advice to fellow students
CA course not only needs hard work but also smart study. Striking a perfect balance between articleship and studies is of utmost importance. Further, students should maintain their calm and compose throughout the exam days.
And the most important advice I would like to give is to be very thorough with the Practice Manuals published by the institute.
