Harsh Kumar Garg - AIR 17 CA Final May 2016 - West Bengal
Harsh Kumar Garg

I hail from a small town in West Bengal near Asansol. Studying commerce was a decision taken by my father for me and I am glad that he could foresee my potential in this field. I have four elder sisters, one of them being a CA and the others have graduated in commerce. My father is a business man and my mother is our home maker. Carrying forward the legacy of my sister, I opted for CA.

My first reaction

Having done good at IPCC level, I was wishful of securing a rank this time too. I was elated to hear my result. Dear Almighty, my parents, and my higher secondary teachers are the true reason behind my success.

Articleship

I have done my internship from Deloitte Haskins and Sells, Gurgaon in Direct Tax department. On the field application of the concepts learned, meeting and discussing tax related matters with tax officers boosted my confidence and gave me a much required edge over other students to excel.

Preparation

Joining coaching gives you a sense of regularity in studies. Otherwise, since the study material and other books by prominent authors are so good that self preparation can be done. I adopted a mix approach.

Strategies

A. Study schedule
I did regular study right through the internship period. I completed all the subjects once before my study leaves.

B. Strong and Weak subjects (How did I prepared them?)
Costing and SFM were my strong subjects. I had a fear of Audit and ISCA, thus I appeared for mock test of Audit and studied ISCA regularly for 1-2 hour for last 3 months before exams.

Mock tests

Yes, as discussed in the above point, it takes away your fear of appearing in your weak subjects.

Rank and preparation

Yes, I was hopeful of a Rank. I revised each subject 3-4 times.

Future Plans

I wish to go for some higher studies. I am in discussion with my parents and teachers for this matter.

ICAI Campus

Since, I have a offer in my hand through a placement agency, I am not pondering about appearing for campus.

Advice to fellow students

Make your ‘own’ dreams. Always strive to achieve them. Be regular with your studies and focus on articleship training as well.

All the best:)
