Aman Kariwala - CA Final May 2016 - Mumbai, Maharashtra
Aman Kariwala

Hi, my name is Aman Kariwala. I secured All India Rank 6 in CA Final May’16 attempt and All India Rank 19 in CA IPCC May’13 attempt. I am born and bought up in Mumbai. I completed my graduation from HR College of Commerce and Economics Mumbai. My father Mr. Chandrakant Kariwala is in service in a private company in Mumbai. My mother Mrs. Kanta Kariwala is a housewife. I also have a younger brother who is also pursuing CA.

I entered the field of CA because right from the early age, I had an interest in numbers and accounts. I used to try and help my father as much as I could with his work. When the choice came before me to choose a career CA was the obvious choice for me.

My first reaction

The first reaction after the result was sheer joy and happiness. I could not control my happiness. I still remember the tears of joy coming from my mother’s eyes who was sitting beside me when I checked the result. I want to give credit for my success to my parents and younger brother. Their efforts in helping me achieve the result can’t be described. They made every sacrifice possible so that I could achieve the desired result.

Then I would like to thank my friends, who were always there during the exams preparation period to solve any doubts and continuously motivating me.

I did my article ship from PWC Mumbai. I did my internship in Statutory Audit Department. The different type of exposure I got there helped me a lot with my studies. I also learned time management skills which also helped me a lot.

It may be hard to believe but I started my preparation in December 2015, the time when I went for my study leave. I used to study for 10-12 hrs day consistently for the period of 5 months. It is not necessary to join a coaching institute but if you can afford one it definitely helps.

A. Study schedule
The study schedule was simple. Dedicate as much time as possible to studies in the 5 months period. A important thing I stop using distractors like WhatsApp during the study leave period.

B. Strong and Weak subjects (How did I prepared them?)
My strong subjects are basically practical subjects and more so costing. My weak subject was ISCA as I had difficulty grasping it, so I dedicated more time towards it and ironed out the weakness. Recommendation as regarding books would be that one should make sure that one is through with the ICAI study material as that covers everything.

Mock tests

I did not attend any mock tests conducted by ICAI but attended the test series at classes. I believe that writing at least one paper before the exam is absolutely necessary as it gives you a real insight at the level of preparation and help to work upon the weak areas before the final hurdle.

Rank and preparation

I always believe in the Proverb “Aim for the sky and you’ll reach the ceiling. Aim for the ceiling and you’ll stay on the floor”. Keeping the study momentum is sometimes a very difficult task. I was helped a great deal in that by my parents and friends who continuously kept motivating me.

Future Plans

I am looking for a good opportunity to enter the corporate world.

ICAI Campus

The way to prepare for ICAI campus is to be aware of the latest developments in the country such as the GST.

Advice to fellow students

Students must plan their studies in such a manner that they should be able to complete 2 revisions in the study material. They should prepare summary notes, which helps in quick revision in the last day. You should stay connected with your batchmates, which not only helps to solve queries but also motivates and keeps the momentum going.
