Rank: 24, Batch: May 2016
Place: Pali, Rajasthan
About my family, my father’s name is Mr. Mahaveer Mehta and he is engaged in Textile business from last 37 years in Pali and my mother is a home maker. I belong to Jain Community. I have three sisters and all three are happily married, I am the youngest of all but with lot of responsibilities.
I entered into this course because I was having a keen interest in commerce and finance and CA is the most prestigious course in field of commerce. My role model is my mother.
My first reaction
The whole week before the result I was worried that whether I will clear or not, and the day before result I didn’t slept and to be very frank I was checking my result even at night on presuming that ICAI might have declared the result. The day of result, every minute was equals to an hour. My best friend Jinendra saw the result as usual and he is the lucky charm for me. He called and said Aakash 24th AIR … Tears came from my eyes and even from my Dad’s eyes. I was happiest because I had never seen my Dad so haapy in my whole life. Within half an hour after the result there was great celebration at my home.
I want to give credit of my success to my Mom because she was there with me in my each ups and downs and another credit to my best friend Saloni for motivating me and helping me on how to manage course and to my whole family.
I did my Internship from Manubhai & Shah LLP, Chartered Accountants, Ahmedabad. It’s one of the big firms in Gujarat with around 17 partners in the firm. I had got good experience in the field of Audit and Taxation. I got practical exposure and before exams leave I was thorough with the Accounting standards, Audit Methodology, Direct and Indirect taxation.
CA Finals course is, I would say four times than that of IPCC. So preparation requires good planning and dedication. During the initial 1 year, I focused sincerely on my internship and then I started with practical subjects. I would say that during last 8 months only I had prepared for the whole course sincerely.
Yes, coaching is required for some subjects but not for all. I did coaching for four subjects i.e. financial reporting, SFM, AMA and Direct Taxation. The other theory subjects there is no need for coaching. Although I was not able to attend coaching even for those four subjects because I did around 200 days of outstation Audits.
A. Study schedule
I started my full fledged studies eight months before and I got four months leave from Internship. So before leave I was done with FR, SFM and AMA and I had given a simple reading to DT and IDT. During four months of leave, I completed rest five subjects and I was done with my course by mid of March and I completed my first revision by mid of April. And then for 10 days I did DT and ISCA because I was having a fear in these two.
B. Strong and Weak subjects (How did I prepared them?)
Strong subject: AMA and IDT
Weak subject: DT and ISCA
For ISCA, I used to read daily 1 or 2 hours for three months and by this I learned all the main points and headings of all questions, learning the contents is not easy so I learned all the headings. For DT, I focused on important chapters because DT is a huge huge course, hence I focused majorly on seven chapters which carries 70 marks and solved PM for twice.
Books and e-sources

Solve Practice manual for each and every subject and solve RTP of institute and solve at least past two attempts papers for all subject and check your answer with the suggested answers given by ICAI.
Yes, I attended second mock test of my attempt. It’s not necessary for success but it is recommended to attend because this will help us to know where we are going wrong and with what speed we should write papers and many more things.
Rank and preparation
No, I did not prepared for the rank, although I was having a wish of securing a rank in finals. I prepared just to clear CA finals with good marks because the course is so long that we are not able to cover all things. So I gave my best during last 8 months and the result of my hard work is 24th AIR. I was having a proper time table and planning for my studies and I tried my best to adhere to this time schedule.
My plans right now are to enter into corporate world and to join an organization that is progressive and performance driven and to work with the competitive team. I plan to pursue CFA once I enter into a corporate world.
I am reading all the latest amendments in companies Act, GST, Ind AS, Finance Budget. I am reading business newspapers and all the current affairs. I am working on improving my communication style and on how to present myself because that matters the most. I am in search for the jobs in off-campus as well.
Advice to fellow students
The advice that I would give is: CA course is the best course in field of commerce with knowledge of various subject and 3 years of Internship, but friend’s its most difficult course which require hard work and dedication. Internship is necessary for real success, what I believe is that you all will have license to commit mistakes during Internship but once those two letters “CA” are added before your name, it’s presumed that you know all such things very well.
All the best to all my friends who are pursuing or who are planning to enter this course. I hope my experience as stated may help you in clearing CA Finals.
Thank you so much.
